When I started this course I had just gone into my 2nd semester of my Senior Year where most of my classmates would either have already graduated early or would go on to choose easy courses to enjoy their last year in highschool. Well I rolled the dice and made a not so great decision on choosing both, I really wanted to take an opportunity in being able to get some of my college hours for a cheaper price now that I am in highschool compared to doing it while in college as a very low income family the cheaper the better which is especially true seeing the career path i choose was to be an attorney. I also made the decision on wanting to have fun my last year in school so I decided that maybe I should try my love for comedy and join Drama again and at first that wasn’t a issue but when the Musical came around that's when time started to seem very limited to be able focus on my two college and ap courses I had also signed up for this year. Combine this all with having to deal with entering a somewhat depressive state due to being discriminated against for my ethnicity it leads to little to no work getting done. Though that is now in the past and I learned that from sheer commitment and determination you can get what you want done, and one more important lesson I learned was it’s okay to talk about your issues to someone, they aren’t in anyway forced to help you but if they know what's going on like having a bully that would stop at nothing or feeling criminalized in a new place then maybe they can give you some advice or even just understand what's going on in your life.
Now for my experience in this course for this year I have learned and relearned lots of information that i will be able to apply to future courses when I go to college. During this course I worked on two other major essays, an argument proposal essay and a rhetorical analysis essay which were both focused on the epidemic of Illiteracy, something that is mentioned very little in the news. The essay that I felt I learnt the most from was the argument essay. In this essay I was able to see the proper set up on making an argument as well as learning more about the illiteracy problem in the U.S Specifically. I learned that U.S illiteracy problem isn’t just poor income families without proper education but it’s also immigrants families that come over and our counted in for the country literacy rate as well the way I would solve this would be by adding more opportunities of education for those immigrants that come over and giving them a fair chance.
The essay that I enjoyed the most doing would have to be the Rhetorical Analysis essay. Here I was able to read many stories of an absurd author and use those stories in a way to support my points made in my argument proposal essay. Franz Kafka had a very short life but his legacy as an Absurd author will be long lasting for many generations to come. Though the one thing I struggled with in both essays would have to be making proper text citations and that's a skill that I will focus on fixing during my free time.
Overall, this course was very beneficial to me even with turning in late assignments. The ability to read and learn about many issues occurring worldwide is what really intrigued me. If I were able to take this course again while not having to deal with other school activities I would do it again. That way I can properly focus on each essay and give it my all.
